A walk of two Pembrokeshire beaches

There are a plethora of stunning walks from the Preseli Venture ecolodge that our guests have been enjoying for many years and here are just a couple of our favourites.

The walks that we can offer vary in length and take in a variety of beautiful landscapes…woods, valley, beaches, rocky coves and high cliffs and lots of amazing features and wildlife.

Spring has finally sprung! So why not head on a beautiful Pembrokeshire walk to enjoy the fruits of spring, such as the spring flowers and the lovely singing birds? You might even encounter something unexpected along the way…

This walk includes Abermawr and Aberbach, the two stunning Pembrokeshire beaches only one mile away from the lodge. The walk starts by perambulating down the Abermawr valley through the stunning National Trust woodland. This time of year you will enjoy swathes of the beautiful white garlic flowers as well as the fantastic purple-blue of the many bluebells carpeting the woodland floor. Other flowers are the white of the greater stichwort and the bright yellow marsh marigold you can glimpse in the wetland at the heart of the Abermawr valley behind the beach.

When the woodland opens up you will find yourself on the impressive Abermawr beach. Sometimes there is a lovely wave rolling in for local surfers and you are bound to see dogs frolicking across the beach or even some horse riders having a gallop.

This walk continues along and round the rocky headland to Aberbach beach along a small section of coast path. Aberbach is like Abermawr’s younger sister or brother. Aberbach means ‘small river mouth’ whereas Abermawr means ‘large river mouth’ in the Welsh language. Aberbach is also one of our favourite coasteering locations.

The walk continues not up and along the coast path but instead inland up the Aberbach valley. It passes a lovely old stone cottage and continues through some woodland. Near the end of this lovely stroll up the path you will notice something in the surrounding woodland……what’s that you say? Dainty wooden creatures? – natural art using driftwood and bits and bobs scavenged from rubbish washed up on the beach.

Yes that’s right; there are many wooden animals to be seen on this walk, they are sculptured by a local artist who lives in a lovely house at the end of this path. The delightful sculptures are made from recycled materials. You will spot a dragon; monkey, many snakes and maybe even a crocodile….so do enjoy this mini wild trail!

The end section of the walk involves walking back to Abermawr down the woodland lane (a dead-end road finishing at the top of Abermawr beach) and then heading back up the wooded valley along the path that heads up the left hand side of the valley back up to the Preseli Venture lodge.

Do come and stay and use the Preseli Venture ecolodge as your base for delightful Pembrokeshire walking and also check out our self-guided eco walking holiday which covers 5 days of north Pembrokeshire coast path walking and a 6 night stay in the ecolodge.
