A half-day trip for all ages exploring the marine life of our rocky shores.
The Rockpool Safari allows you and your family to responsibly explore the incredible ecosystems that exist in the rocky intertidal zone of the Pembrokeshire Coast with the help of a knowledgeable local guide.
It’s easy not to notice these bustling wildlife habitats with all the vast and magnificent scenery of the Pembrokeshire Coast around you, but as you slow down and get up close to these rocky reefs, a whole new exciting world opens up to you. Darting blennies and dancing anemones, scuttling crabs and shimmering sea snails: all coexisting in a landscape of colourful coral weed, marine algae and swaying seaweeds. We’ll learn about how these creatures adapt to the varying conditions through the ever-changing tides and the synergistic relationships between them: from scavenging prawns and grazing periwinkles to carnivorous dog whelks hunting mussels & barnacles!

Timings +
The Rockpool Safari is 2.5 hours, and will either run in the morning or the afternoon since it requires a low tide.
This time includes meeting at the activity provider’s base in St Davids and travelling together in the company minibus to and from the nearby beach.
Please arrive 10 minutes before your activity start time.
Age Restrictions +
The trip is open to people of any age, however it’s aimed at families with children. The ideal age group that the session is designed for is kids under 8 years old.
What’s included? +
Nothing specific is needed for the session but participants should bring suitable outdoor clothing as well as some warm layers in case of cold weather and footwear such as trainers, for scrambling over small rocks and pebbles. Wellies are a good choice of footwear for children but not essential.
Where? +
Your guide will select the location on the day based on the conditions but it will usually be somewhere nearby on the St David’s Peninsula.
You’ll meet at the company’s base in St Davids (precise location will be shared in your confirmation of booking email). Here, you’ll meet your guide and be driven to the chosen location in the company minibus.
